A fresh twist is set to provide Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli an exciting start to its 2014 season, with a sensational calendar for the coming season now confirmed.
The Porsche series will headline the racing component of Top Gear Festival Sydney, to be held at Sydney Motorsport Park on March 08-09, 2014, which this year attracted over 41,000 spectators to the New South Wales venue.
Following the unique season opening round, GT3 Cup Challenge will return to its traditional home, the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals, for the remainder of the season, starting at the series’ return to Sandown Raceway.
GT3 Cup Challenge will then visit Mallala Motor Sport Park, Winton Motor Raceway, Queensland Raceway followed by the traditional host of the season finale, Phillip Island.
The one-make category will also continue its popular Jim Richards Endurance Trophy format, with the endurance championship to consist of three long-distance races held across the Mallala, Winton and Queensland Raceway rounds.
Pirelli will also continue in its role as Presenting Partner and Official Tyre Supplier of GT3 Cup Challenge.
Porsche Cars Australia Motorsport Manager Cam McConville is excited by the new-look GT3 Cup Challenge calendar and the future of the series in 2014.
“The coming season of GT3 Cup Challenge will be one of the most exciting yet. We see the introduction of the 2011-spec 911 GT3 Cup car after its three-year stint in Carrera Cup while also bringing GT3 Cup Challenge to the biggest stage it has ever seen - Top Gear Festival Sydney,” said McConville.
“We then return to the Shannons Nationals for the remainder of the season, which has been a great home to the series since its inception. For this I’d like to thank Rob Curkpatrick for his continued hard work and support at these tremendous events.
“While this season is set for change, we remain completely focussed on the fundamental elements that maintain the series’ popularity – competitive, cost-effective racing in a fun and friendly environment. This has been evident at race tracks since 2008 and will continue to be well into the future.”
Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli has so far completed 34 rounds and 101 races over its past six seasons. Over this time the series has visited 11 different circuits around Australia and had 125 individual drivers compete at least once in the category.
